Winter is finally here which means changing our wash day routines, considering protective styling and keeping on top of moisture and hydration!
As the winter air can be drying, here at Flora & Curl we want your hair looking its absolute best. So we’re sharing with you our tips for retaining maximum moisture this winter.
Tip 1: Wash Day = Deep Conditioning
Creating a simple wash day routine is the best for this kind of weather, and deep conditioning is key! A good wash day sets our hair for the many styles ahead. Deep conditioning helps revive, repair and add moisture back into our hair giving it a fresh start. Try mixing your favourite deep conditioner with a good oil and some indirect heat to help penetrate your strands and set your hair for the next process.
Tip 2: Protective Styling
Whether it’s wigs, weaves or braids, protective styling is one way to keep the moisture sealed in, and the cold air away. This is a great way to retain moisture, keep our hands out of our hair and retain a lot of length. It also keeps the hair soft as you can moisturise and go without any fuss while protecting your natural hair underneath. Try moisturising and sealing your natural hair whilst in your protective style. Also wearing your favourite hat lined with silk or satin will help protect your strands from rubbing, causing friction, loss of moisture, breakage and split ends.
Tip 3: LOC/LCO
All-natural sisters should know what this important step is, and if you don’t, well you're going to learn all about it now. Whether it be daily or every few days, the LOC (Leave-In, Oil, Cream) or LCO (Leave-In, Cream, Oil) method is what gives our hair what it needs to stay moisturised, hydrated and soft. As textured hair tends to be drier, we need to find steps to protect our tresses from the harsh winter weather. Try using some of your staple products both ways to see which way works best for your curls.
The key is to build a regime that is simple, what works for YOU and is ultra-moisturising to tackle the winter weather. Shop our hydrating heroines for super juicy, tresses this winter.
