You’ve had the best hair day. Your curls have turned out better than ever (styling with your favourite Flora & Curl products of course), you’ve done your night-time skin care routine, and now it’s time to head to bed.
Tried and tested myself, I have 4 tips for you that will help protect your curls throughout the night.
-
Hydrate Your Curls
Think of this as the last step in your night-time skin care routine, but for your hair. At night some of you may use a night time recovery cream to hydrate and nourish your skin. Well the same goes for your hair. You want to hydrate and nourish your curls while preserving your style.
Lightly applying an oil to your hair and ends such as our Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil will keep your strands protected and lock in moisture. Taking care of your hair and scalp is also important, and a great way to boost your curls with extra moisture and refresh your scalp. Our Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Mist is great for restoring and soothing your scalp after a long day. Why not treat yourself to a cheeky little head massage at the same time.

Satin Scrunchies
Protect your hair and preserve your style while you sleep by using a satin scrunchie. Simply pull your hair to the top of your head into a loose pineapple, and place your scrunchie loosely around your curls. Satin scrunchies are the perfect addition for your night time routine to help preserve your curls without causing any frizz, breakage and keep your natural curl pattern intact.
-
Pineapple It Up
If you are new to the pineapple game, then there are some things you should know. A pineapple is a night time staple in the curly hair community. It is essentially a really high ponytail that keeps curls together. Using a satin scrunchie and a loose pineapple will help preserve your style. Remember, the key word here is loose. Try not to double twist your scrunchie so that it won’t leave a dent when you let down your curls the next day. This will avoid any kinks.
If you prefer not to pineapple, or choose to do a different style such as twists, a satin pillowcase will keep your curls hydrated, and still protected.

Night Protection
Can you imagine taking a cotton towel to your hair and vigorously rubbing your curls? The horror, I know! Straight away we think breakage and frizz, right? While sleeping we have no idea what we do, but one thing for sure is we never sleep still. This can be a red flag for our hair, especially if you tend to sleep on cotton pillowcases with your hair exposed. To preserve your curls, try sleeping on a satin pillowcase or cover your hair with a silk/satin bonnet or head scarf. The silky fabric will help cut down friction, tangling and breakage. Protecting your curls at all times.
Flora & Curl Tip: Why not try using both the satin bonnet and head scarf for double protection while covering your curls, or maybe even go for all three?
How To Refresh Your Curls the Next Day
Reviving your curls after a good night's sleep is as easy as one, two, three.
Simply shake out your hair and allow your curls to naturally fall before fluffing. You want to use tools such as fro pick and a comb to ensure your curls are gently teased out without any force and to provide added volume.
As curls are still hydrated and moisturised from the night before, you may just want to do a quick spritz with our Rose Water Curl Mist to awaken your curls and apply product to any curls that may have strayed away overnight or if you encounter a little frizz. Our Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel is perfect for defining your curls back into shape. Or for a softer hold, try using our Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion to reactivate your curls and soften your hair strands.
And that's it. How do you protect your curls at night? We would love to hear any tips you may have!
Naturally yours,
The Team at Flora & Curl
