Meet Laiba from London, UK! This curlie decided to make a huge decision at 13 (that I think most of us wish we had made). She put down the straighteners and decided that enough was enough! Now, 14 year old Laiba has finally got her healthy hair in just a year! We're feeling inspired by this journey!

The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

Hello, I am Laiba and I live in London. I started my curly hair journey when I realised how damaging heat was on my curls, so I wanted to try and avoid using heat on my hair. This meant no straightening and leaving it be, naturally.

I was 13 years old at the time and I never knew about curl creams, gels and all of the other curly hair products. My hair was really dry and frizzy (like, really bad). One day I was scrolling through TikTok and come across a DIY deep conditioning treatment that had avocado, banana and honey in it. I started creating this deep conditioner and used it for at least 5 weeks, but then I get fed up with the hassle of keep having to make it. I then decided to look into the curly hair products on the market and TikTok helped with that as I followed a load of curly girls and guys and watched their routines. 

One day I found a girl called Alyssa on the platform and noticed that she promoted Flora & Curl a lot. I was curious about the brand and clicked through to the website. And it all seemed so interesting. I bought a couple of products from Flora & Curl and my frizz went and I had such beautiful definition and curl clumps—with no stringy curls at all! I am so grateful for this brand and Alyssa!

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

The main challenge was finding a brand and products that would be good for my hair. I am only 14 years old now and I started when I was 13, so I didn't want to spend too much money. Luckily I went for these great quality products at a lower price.

What is your number 1 curl tip?

My number one curl tip would be to wear a silk bonnet or have a silk pillowcase to protect your curls overnight. It prevents frizz in the morning and keeps your curls looking defined and beautiful. Protecting curls overnight is such a time saver!

I heard about Flora & Curl through @Alyssarxs who is a curly hair influencer on Instagram. She is truly amazing and gives so much information!

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

My curls are more defined and I now have less frizz. I have also seen hair growth—especially my baby hairs.

What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?

The Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Pre-Shampoo Oil, Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Shampoo, Coconut Mint Curl Refresh Conditioner and the Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Mist for scalp relief. I then add the Rose Water Detangling Lotion and continue to detangle my hair with the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion. After this, to add more definition I use the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel and brush style with a Denman Brush. After this I add the Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil to my hair, diffuse and the scrunch out the crunch.
