The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

Hi, my name is Lauren and I’m from Birmingham, UK. I’m dual heritage and have naturally 2c - 3a curl type. I started to embrace my curls back in 2018, it’s been a very up and down journey as I have always struggled with my natural hair. But in the last 12 months, I have really taken the time to invest and love my curls.

What inspired me was my step daughter who has the MOST amazing spiral curls. She'd straighten her hair on special occasions, thinking that she looked okay and acceptable. And that’s when it hit me... what sort of example am I setting for a little one? That's when I took action to really embrace my own hair. And I have to say I’m loving it! Through lots of trial and error I have really embraced my curls and learnt to love them - and since my curly journey I have received so many compliments and wow’s from people - it’s boosted my confidence ten fold.

I’ve also showcased my natural look professionally on my LinkedIn profile as that was another stickler I had for years was that my hair was not very professional - and this also helped open up conversation with people. Honestly, my curls have really helped me grow as a person!

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

Huff, the challenges! Understanding what my hair needed, how to balance the right products and the amount of product to use. I’m still learning today but the more I learn and experiment I am finding what works for me, for wash days and styling routine. Frizz and knots was another big thing for me - I found that water is a big key for me as I have very thirsty hair. So, I know now to apply my styling products onto wet hair which I have seen a difference in my wash days lasting longer!

What is your number 1 curl tip?

Satin scrunchies and satin pillowcase! This really helped minimise frizz and knots for me - so when it came to refresh days it was a lot more manageable.

What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?

I actually came across the brand in Superdrug and I thought after reading ingredients and reviews online, let’s give a try! And wow the styling products which I have only tried so far - my hair absolutely LOVES them. The results are insane and even better on refresh days.

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

My hair was more manageable and my curls lasted longer than the normal 3 days,  I go as far as 5-6 days on just refreshing now! 

Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?

Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion for sure. It gives my curls so much shine and bounce and it doesn’t dry my hair. Such a lovely all round product.

What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?

At the moment after washing I use the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion and the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel. Then I use the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam for refresh days. I am yet to try the shampoo and conditioner - which I’m eyeing up.

Good price point, good amount of ml’s in the bottles—HELLO, the smell?! So lush. And the products work!
