The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

My name is Eloise, I live in Hastings, East Sussex in the UK.
After 23 years of using my ghd straighteners every day to try and tame my curly hair, during lockdown with the covid pandemic I decided I was going to embrace my natural hair and learn to take care of it. My healthy hair journey began. I have fine, low-density hair and it took at least a year to find out what products my hair liked, and how much product I needed to use. Every wash day was a learning curve. My transition phase lasted 18 months and there were millions of times I was so close to giving up and getting the straighteners out of hiding—but I'm so, so glad I didn't!

My curls are the healthiest they have ever been and I am getting consistently good results. Sometimes my hair has a tantrum and I get bad washdays but it's all part of learning. Usually, these bad washdays are because I've used new products or accidentally used too much product. But on those days I just throw it up with a lovely scrunchie or headband and I'm good to go. I'm not bothered by not-so-good washdays anymore.

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

Having fine curls. My challenge was finding products that were not going to weigh my hair down. A lot of the products on the market are designed for thick, coarse curls, mine are the opposite to this and at the beginning I did struggle. I used the Flora & Curl products and loved them straight away as they were hydrating, lightweight and smelt amazing. I also had 23 years of heat damage which needed a lot of TLC and patience to get my curls to be healthy again.

What is your number 1 curl tip?

For fine curls like mine, I would say less is more with product amounts.

I heard about Flora & Curl on Instagram from one of the curly hair accounts I followed. The curly hair account creator also had fine low density curls and said how amazing the products were so I took the plunge and bought the travel set.

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

My hair began to feel healthier, and stronger, and I had less frizz! It had a lovely natural shine, my curls began to spring up, getting more defined as my hair journey progressed. My hair just became more manageable and I began to love my curls after a lot of years of hating the fact that I had curly hair.

Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?

I can't really choose but if I had to it would be the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion as it makes my curls so defined, bouncy and hydrated.

What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?

After cleansing, I use the Rose Water Cream Conditioner, Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion, and Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel and then I diffuse. I scrunch out the crunch with a very small amount of the Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil.

They smell amazing, have all-natural ingredients and they leave my hair super defined. I always get excellent results when I use these products.
