Braids are one of the most effective ways to protect your tresses. While you’ve spent hours in the hairdresser’s chair achieving the perfect braided look, your protective style is not only stylish and beautiful—it's great for length retention and is a perfect low manipulation hairstyle.
Now while you maintain your protective style for as long as possible, your braids will need a bit of a reset throughout the weeks. Here are some tips to help your keep your braids neat and looking fresh.
Wash day
With all the refreshing, you may start to get a lot of product build-up and will need to cleanse your scalp. An ACV rinse (Apple Cider Vinegar) or sulphate-free shampoo will do the trick. Remember when cleansing your scalp, it is best to first mix a little shampoo in a spray bottle with water and spray your scalp. You may massage your head to create a nice lather. Shampooing this way causes less frizz on your braids and allows easy access to cleansing your scalp. It cuts out the amount of time your braids will be underwater as they can become heavy.
Remember, a fresh scalp is a happy scalp.

Refresh, Moisturise and Seal
Even though your tresses are neatly tucked away anywhere from 1-2 months, it is super important to keep your hair and scalp moisturised. Your curls still need all the moisture and love too. This can be done by doing a quick refresh with a mist. Now this doesn’t have to be a long and fancy process. Mists like our Rose Water Curl Mist is a perfect lightweight mist offering instant softness and moisture, and is a perfect alternative to water. It is botanically infused with Water, Aloe Vera and bioactive flower oils of Lavender, Jasmine and Sandalwood. Another refreshing favourite is the Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Mist to truly hydrate your scalp with botanicals featuring Lavender, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and Willow Bark Extract.
Pro tip
If you love to mix your products, then try this.

Rose Water Curl Mist and Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil Shake, shake, shake and spritz on your scalp.
Touch ups
So it's about that time to take your braids out, but you're not quite ready—you want to rock your braided style one last time. Fear not, this is where you can refresh and touch up the front of your hairline. This is the area that is more likely to be seen. This can be done by re-braiding the hairline. There are also plenty of videos on YouTube that show how you can refresh without re-braiding.
Keeping them fresh
Have you ever notice those little flyaways? Us too. This can be easily fixed with our fabulous, Award-Winning foam. Our Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam is super lightweight but sturdy as it helps to keep those flyaways in check. Just place on a silk or satin scarf to set for a while, and then you're good to go.
Night Routine
Keeping your braids wrapped in a silk scarf or bonnet will not only preserve your braids, but will also help prevent unwanted frizz while you sleep. If you don’t like using scarfs or bonnets, you can always opt for a silk or satin pillowcase to lay your braids down.
