We learnt that a lot of our new #floracurlfamily members had started to embrace their curls nearly a year ago during the global pandemic. It was a tough time for us all, but we are so proud and happy that you started to see the real beauty in those waves, curls and coils!

We are sure that we are seeing a lot more people joining us on our social media channels who are wanting to learn more about their curls and gain some insight on how to transition successfully and healthily. So, we have collated 5 helpful tips for transitioning just for you!

1. Shampoo with sulfate-free products like our shampoos!

Try our Rose Water & Honey Cream Shampoo if you're in need of a hydration boost. You can use our African Citrus Bloom Superfruit Shampoo to restore damaged, lacklustre curls. Or, if you suffer with a sensitive, dry or oily scalp condition, you can confidently use our gentle, yet effective Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Shampoo.

Cleansing your curls with a sulfate-free shampoo is a must in any walk of a curlies journey. Sulfates are extremely drying to curls because they take out the moisture from the hair shaft. Sulfates leave curls brittle, damaged and more prone to breakage.

2. Pre-poo once a week with our Superfruit Hair Oil or the Scalp Refresh Oil

The benefits of pre-pooing are never-ending. For instance, using natural oils to nourish the scalp not only soothes and replenishes, but it also encourages hair growth and makes for a luxurious wash day. Let your curls and scalp drink from either our African Citrus Hair Oil or Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Pre-Shampoo Oil (this one is perfect for itchy, flakey and dry scalps!)

3. Clarify to remove build-up with our Clay Wash

Using our Coconut Mint Curl Refresh Clay Wash helps rid impurities, hard water and build-up on the scalp while simultaneously pressing reset on your curls through a deep, yet gentle cleanse. Our clay wash also maintains healthy oil production from the scalp, which in turn keeps your curls healthy. Clarify your curls every 3-4 weeks for optimal scalp health.

Remember:
HAPPY SCALP, HAPPY CURLS

4. Apply a leave-in after every wash

After every washday simply apply a few plops of our oh so hydrating Rose Water & Honey Leave-In Detangler. Watch those knots melt, while your curls lock in the hydration from our botanical blend of honey, rose water and oat silk  (great for reducing unwanted wash day frizz too).

5. Refresh daily with a natural mist like our Jasmine Oasis Hair Mist

Our hair mist is the PERFECT companion for when you're out and about and your curls are in need of a hydration boost. Yes, water can be argued as the best hydrator, however, unlike water, our Jasmine Oasis Hair Mist does not contain drying elements such as:

  • Metal minerals
  • Fluorides (used in toothpaste)
  • Chloramines (water disinfectant)

Our hair mist hydrates those curls the way nature intended - with a carefully composed blend of jasmine oil (great for scalp health), aloe vera powder (replenishing) and rose water (true hydration). Learn more about water vs mist.

We hope this helps you out on your transition and we would also LOVE to hear your individual curl story! Maybe you transitioned during the pandemic, or perhaps you wanted to give your curls a second chance; whatever the story, we want to hear it and share with our curl community that may need that additional push to return natural. Submit your story today with a before & after photo! We're rewarding you 50% off your next order with us when you submit!

Not only would this be a fab opportunity to help people see the beauty in their waves, curls and coils, it’s a great way to develop more curl confidence too. We hope to hear from you soon, curlfriend. Stay safe and warm and keep those curls loved! They’re as unique as you are.

Naturally Yours,
The Team at Flora & Curl
