Have you made your New Year's Resolution yet? Let us guess... more time staying active and less time being a couch potato? We're at that point too! Health is wealth, and looking after your body and moving more is a must if you want to be healthier. But how do we keep our curls healthy while doing so too?

Can you work out with curly hair? The answer is yes you can. The beauty of natural hair means our hair is very versatile. When we think of going to the gym, we automatically think of how long it took to achieve the perfect twist out, getting amazing curl definition and how to protect our hair while working up a sweat. But why should we limit ourselves just because our curly tresses may get in the way. There's no need to worry about sweating out your curls, just take a look at our work out methods and hairstyles below!

The Updo

Keeping your hair out of your face and away from your neck is important as that is where we tend to sweat. Along with buns, a ponytail and putting your hair in to a pineapple, these are great protective styles for keeping your hair up and out of the way while working out. Use our super-cute and gentle Vegan Satin Scrunchies to keep curls tied up without the friction from standard hair ties. There are other protective styles you can try. You can also try cornrows, braids, feed in braids or twists as a low manipulation hairstyle.

Short Hair

Why work up a sweat and deal with your hair at the same time. If you're rocking a cute twa or have short natural tresses, then fear not. Using a headband will help keep your curls out of your face and protect your hair from frizz.

Co-wash

While working out, many naturals like to do a mid week co-wash to refresh their hair and scalp. A co-wash is a conditioner based cleanser that can replace shampoo. It is a great way to wash and refresh your tresses throughout the week without completely stripping the natural oils from your hair. Now not everyone likes using co-washes, so you can always opt for a gentle cleansing shampoo like ours. A light wash and a little moisture for your curls will keep them in check until next wash day.

The Refresh

No time for a quick co-wash till wash day? Then why not try refreshing your curls and scalp. Try mixing a little our Rose Water & Honey Leave-In DetanglerAfrican Citrus Bloom Hair & Scalp Oil and some water in a spray bottle, and there you have it. The perfect combo for a curl refresh. Not only that, but our Jasmine Oasis Hydrating Hair Mist is also great for quickly refreshing and uplifting your curls straight after a workout. And if you tend to get a super sweaty scalp when working out and the itchiness from your sweat becomes unbearable, you must try our latest scalp innovation: the Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Mist to cool, soothe and freshen up your scalp in an instant.

Working out doesn't have to be stressful when your hair is concerned.

Naturally yours,
Team Flora & Curl
