Did someone say Spring?! We are here for the gorgeous weather, warmer temperatures and of course the Easter bunny bringing a banquet of chocolate to fill our chocoholic needs! But let's not drift off too much. With Spring gracing its beautiful presence and summer just around the corner, it's time to switch up our regimen to ensure our curls and coils are receiving just what they need to flourish in the soon-to-be warmer temperatures.
1. Creating A Moisturising Routine
This is an important step to reviving dry strands. Textured, curly hair tends to be drier and unfortunately, the sun doesn't help with that either. We need to protect our curls from the heat and harsh UV rays from the sun. A smart regimen to help keep moisture and hydration locked in would be the LOC/LCO regimen. This method gives our tresses moisture, hydration and protection — especially if you opt for our plant-powered LOC must-haves.
2. Deep Conditioning Is Your Best Friend
We'll never get tired of saying that deep conditioning is crucial! As always, a foundation for retaining moisture starts with wash day. A good wash day sets our hair for the many styles ahead. Deep conditioning helps revive, repair and restore our locks. Try mixing your favourite deep conditioner with a fab oil and some indirect heat to help penetrate your strands and set your hair for the next process.
3. Water, Water and More Water
The more water you drink, the more hydrated your strands will become — forever keeping your wash and go's moisturised. Our roots soak up the water from our bodies and distribute it evenly throughout the strands. Becoming dehydrated will eventually lead to your hair becoming brittle and dry. Staying hydrated is key to not only keeping your body hydrated and healthy but keeping your tresses fulfilled too.
4. Protective Styling
Repeat with us: protective styling is only protective when keeping on top of hydration and moisture! And now a little louder for the people in the back!
Although protective styling is another way to give our tresses a break from high manipulation hairstyles, it is only protective when you are looking after the hair underneath and most definitely your scalp. A protective style will retain moisture and length, but only if your hair has the food to grow and flourish. Using a liquid such as our Rose Water Curl Mist is a staple option for applying daily moisture to the strands. You can also add our Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Mist to the mix to ensure your scalp receives a natural dose of stimulating botanicals to help hydrate, soothe and encourage healthy hair growth.
To conclude, the take-away points to retain moisture this Spring and Summer is to:
- Stay hydrated by drinking at least 2 litres of water a day
- Prioritise moisture and hydration
- When protective styling, make sure it's protective by watering and misting your gorgeous curls
- Deep condition your hair more often
We hope this helps you this Spring and Summer! If you need more help, please feel free to get in touch with our curl specialists at hello@floracurl.com.
Naturally yours,
Team Flora & Curl
