Meet Clara, 22 from France! This curlie shares her journey on the road to scalp redemption as she calls quits on tight and high-manipulative hairstyles to let her scalp and curls flourish.
The Journey
What inspired you to return natural?
Hi! I'm Clara, a 22 year old female from France. When I was a child my hair was really straight so it was easy to style and I would wear it down all the time. But when I turned 10 my hair started to go really weird and frizzy at the back of my neck. Then when I started middle school it looked like a crazy mess. I had huge volume, lots of frizz, and I didn't know what to do with it. So I started to wear a ponytail or a bun everyday. It lasted 10 years. 10 years of wearing super tight hairstyles. My scalp would hurt when I went to bed and let my hair down.
Sometimes I used to let my hair dry in a braid, which was really bad for my scalp. I always, always had flakes. I thought it was dandruff because that's what my hairdresser told me. So I used really harsh shampoos and it never worked. I have really long hair (down to my butt) so the weight of all of this hair was really pulling on my scalp. I even have a receding hairline because of this.
Fast-forward to the first lockdown, I began to try and let my hair loose to free my scalp. It looked like a mess but it was healthier. Then I got used to it and now I wear my hair down all the time! I had heard about the curly girl routine for a while on YouTube and Instagram and I wanted to try it. Last summer I purchased my first products and it was an awakening! Now my scalp is really healthy and my curls are forming nicely!
What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?
The amount of information. There is a lot on the internet, and I started to get lost. But eventually I learned what my curl type was. My scalp was also a huge challenge because it was so damaged. Now with your Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Pre-shampoo Oil it is finally healthy!
What is your number 1 curl tip?
I would say to style the hair wet and to not disturb the curls.

One of the best all natural products I've tried but you have to be pretty precise in how much of it you put in your hair. Too much can be a little too much residue weighing down your natural curl pattern and too little causes a halo of frizz.
