How To Dry Curly Hair

How To Dry Curly Hair

Here at Flora & Curl we believe that every step of your wash routine is crucial for achieving the best results. That's why we want to shed light on a step that often goes overlooked - drying your curly hair. We're excited to share essential tips and techniques on how to dry your curls, ensuring a flawless finish to your wash day routine.

We understand that the journey to healthy, defined curls doesn’t end with cleansing and conditioning. It continues with proper drying techniques that minimise frizz and maximise your hair’s natural beauty. Whether you prefer air drying, diffusing, plopping or using a gentle curl towel, we’re here to guide you through the process.

So let's begin, you’ve washed and prepped your curls with your favourite products, and now it’s time for the home run, and finish off wash day.

Air Drying

Simply put, air drying is pretty self-explanatory. It simply means applying your products and allowing your curls to dry naturally without the use of any heat or tools.

This method is perfect if you are wanting to cut down your drying time. There are two main methods when it comes to diffusing your curls.

Hover Diffusing

This is where you hover the nozzle around your curls without touching the diffuser.

Pixie Diffusing

This requires you to place each section of hair directly onto the diffuser head and hold it in place.

Brianda shows us the do's and don'ts on how to diffuse in these simple steps.

This method of drying is very popular amongst the curly community.
Essentially, Plopping is taking a non-terry, cotton or microfibre towel, and wrapping your curls on top of your head.

How to plop like a pro.

Step One: Lay the towel on a flat surface and place your hair in the centre of the towel.
Step Two: Roll the front of the towel to your hair line and fold back of the towel over your head.
Step Three: Grab the edges of the towel and tie it up. Leave for 15-45 mins, or however long you would like.

Our brand ambassador Alyssa takes you through the process step by step.

Gentle Curl Towel

Regular terry towels can cause a lot of frizz and dryness since they can strip all of the natural oils in your hair. This can lead to making your curls feel stringy and dry, no matter what products you use. Since regular towels are rougher, they can also weaken your hair strands and over time result in long-term damage!

However, our Gentle Curl Towel is light-weight, smooth-layered and ultra-soft - designed to absorb excess water from your hair while being extremely delicate on your strands. It is easy to use, fast absorbing and is perfect for hands-free drying. But, it also leaves enough moisture to help your curls absorb your favourite Flora & Curl products.

Remember, there isn’t a one size fits all approach to drying your curls. Choose the right method that suits you and your routine.
